Salary: $80k

Location: Portland Area, Maine

Education: Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering discipline with 2-5 years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Job description:

Under indirect supervision, defines, Justifies, and implements packaging projects for division.

Incumbent is responsible for approval of labeling, package development, and interface with marketing. Determines packaging machinery needs and equipment requirements for the packaging department. Supervises and coordinates the activities of technical staff, as appropriate to the needs of the operation.

Job Requirements:Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as they pertain to this position. Knowledge of packaging technology and labeling systems. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Knowledge and understanding of packaging equipment systems Knowledge of contract documents and specifications. Knowledge of basic labeling control practices. Ability to coordinate and/or supervise independent contractors. Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work assignments. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Knowledge of computer network systems and programming languages

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Design labeling formats and drawings for vendors to create physical components. Define packaging equipment requirements to meet market needs and USDA standards. Directs modification, installation, maintenance and repair of packaging equipment. Coordinates and interacts with external contractors in the installation, commissioning and debugging of packaging equipment. Plans and implements packaging modifications and improvements. Modifies and optimizes packaging control software, as necessary. Oversees activities of contractors, vendor personnel and suppliers. Monitors contracts for compliance and controls costs. Performs quality control inspections to ensure adherence to contract specifications and industry standards. Prepares Capital Appropriation requests and justifications for equipment as required. Evaluates and implements cost savings opportunities for the equipment and facilities. Prepare engineering design qualifications for equipment. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
